The level 3 tests gradually introduce new concepts and more original, complex moves to newer cubs, and demand an increase of skill. This level greatly focuses on new shapes and introduces a variety of ways that slants can be put to use in the arena.
Level 3.1 |
- Portion: Ride the indicated amount of the specified circle size, then exit straight out of the circle (ex: 5m ½ Portion Right around X)
- ¼ Portion - Enter at a circle point, ride to the next circle point and exit (a quarter of the circle)
- ½ Portion - Enter at a circle point, ride 2 circles points and exit (half of the circle)
- ¾ Portion - Enter at a circle point, ride 3 circles point and exit (three-fourths of a circle)
- Pyramid: Ride diagonally out of a corner to X, and then turn to the opposite corner on the same short wall of the corner you started at. This creates a large triangle off a short wall of the arena.
- Back Slant: Slant onto the slant angle behind you, slanting away from the direction you were currently going
- Squiggle Set: Three alternating curl overs (a dodge with an extra curl over)
- Cub Set: On the first go, slant off of the wall or in the direction said. On the second go, curl over the opposite way (back to the original track) to return to your original track going in the opposite direction.
- Strike Set: On the first go, curl in the direction said. On the second go, rear (on a Ribbon angle).
- Case Set: On the first go, curl in the direction said. On the second go, halt (on a Ribbon angle)
Level 3.2
- Deflect Set: On the first go, curl over in the direction said, on the second go, curl in the opposite direction.
- Big Bear: Ride a Half Moon from E or B to X, then a straight line back to the corner letter on the same wall (a half peak).
- Big Cub: Ride a straight line from a corner letter to X, then a Half Moon from X to E or B (back towards the same long wall).
- Gem: Right straight to each circle point rather than curving to them, creating a diamond shape.
- Ribbon: Ride a keyhole into a slant in one curve, resulting in a forward slant
- Fish: Ride a curl over into a slant on go, resulting in a back slant
- Rake Set: A curl immediately into a forward slant on one go.
- Strike Set: On the first go, curl in the direction stated. On the second go, rear. This should land you on a ribbon angle.
- Coil: On go, in the direction asked, riders keyhole, and then halt when straight
- Polar: On the first go, bear in the direction asked. On the second go, bear in the opposite direction, adjusting back to the original track and direction.
Level 3.3 |
-Combo Varieties I, T, B, C, Orbit, Q: ride your combo with the first gait in the transition curl being your curl overs within the combo, and the second gait in your transition curl being the curl part of the combo.
- Triple Curl Set: On the first go, walk curl. On the second go, trot curl. On the 3rd go, canter curl- opposite of Downward Curl
- Downward Curl Set: On the first go, canter curl. On the second go, trot curl. On the 3rd go, walk curl- opposite of Triple Curl
- Fluke Set: On the first go, the keyhole in the direction said. On the second go, curl in the opposite direction- opposite of Fortune
- Fortune Set: On the first go, curl in the direction said. On the second go, keyhole in the opposite direction- opposite of Fluke
- Resist: On the first go, retreat curl. On the second go, curl over in the opposite direction
- Retreat Bear: On go, retreat curl in the direction said, adjusting back to the original track going in the opposite direction as you would in a bear, at an angle
- Mist Bear: On the first go, curl in the direction said. On the second go, bear in the opposite direction. A mist curl, but adjusting back to the original track going the opposite direction as you would in a bear, at an angle
- Clover: Lock in the direction said on the first 2 gos and then lock the opposite direction on the 3rd and 4th gos
Group 3 |
- Twin Lines: A tight rein in which riders are boot to boot with each other
- Wide Tier/Rein: From one horse gaps (or split lines to rein), lines cut the arena on go, adjusting to the wide tier lines
- Numbered Tiers: Example: For ‘Five Tier Set’ the first five riders would comb on go, with the next set of five combing where they did in a tier fashion.
- Stagger: When called, the leader of the line will walk 3-5 steps, then halt. All others walk to their spot. Evens halt NTT with the person in front, but slightly to the right of them (boot to boot). Odd riders halt behind the lead, still NTT with the rider who was in front of them
- NTT Jagged: When called, the leader of the line will walk 3-5 steps, then halt. All others walk to their spot. The second and 3rd riders will arrow halt with the lead and 4th and 5th riders will flock the second and 3rd riders, being in line with the lead. The pattern will repeat down the line
- Colony: When called, the first person in the line walks 3-5 steps then halt. All others walk to their spot. The first rider halts on a slant to the left. All others walk to their spot, evens halting on a slant to the right. Riders should be in line with the arena line they halted from
- Couple: On go, odds comb. Evens follow the odd rider that was in front of them resulting in a comb in buddy pairs
- Braid: On go, the rider at the back of the line will weave in and out of the riders in front, and then halt at the front of the line. Each rider will repeat this on the commander's gos (always start to the right)
- Kodiak: On go, odds Retreat Bear and evens Mist Bear
- Lollipop: With split lines halted facing towards each other, odds will trot forward on the first go, then curl over around their partner on the second go. Evens will pivot on the second go following their partners and then automatically begin to trot behind their partner into couples.
- Join: From split lines combing towards each other in a comb, evens will curl over towards their partner on go, adjusting behind their partner, resulting in couples.
- Atomic: From waterfall, Mist Curl away from the other line to remerge into one line going the opposite direction and in reverse order
- Flipper: On go, the first two riders begin a flip, with odd riders following odds and evens following even’s (evens lead should trot 2-3 steps straight before curling over) and line leads will curl over back in when nose to nose with the last person in line (for BOS) to remerge in the same order on your original track.
- Bird Flight: When called, all riders will ride across the diagonal and then adjust straight to form an action arrow on go.
- Bottleneck: From a large rein/split lines, on go riders will angle in and adjust to the specified arena line to form a tighter rein.
- Beaker: From split lines, lines ride straight from a corner letter to the point where the wide tier line and 5m dotted line meet. Then, ride straight across the 5m dotted line until the wall.
- Heart: From a rein or line, riders will angle out from 20m Dotted Line to E/B, then ride a Half Moon to merge at X, or form a rein (will be specified)
- Fishhook: A curl comb thread. On the first go, odds curl comb. On the second go, evens curl comb.
- Teeter: On go, riders ribbon wave and then point their horses nose into the corner, resulting in separated lines on the diagonal.
- Cod: Riders fish labeled direction at the wall, and then cross through the line onto the diagonal, keeping in mind crossing principles.
- U Turn: On go, all riders curl over wave
- Fix: On go, from waterfall alignment or after a U Turn, all riders curl over towards the other line to create one full line
- Ash: Comb on first go, curl comb opposite way on second go
- Koi: Lines Diagonal Split at X, then on go, fish in. This results in an action arrow.
- Hunter: On 1st go, odds curl over left. On 2nd go, evens curl over left and odds curl right
- Four Leaf: Clover wave
- Axel: From a single line, odds will roll over one speed faster while evens full pivot in the same direction
- Waltz: A revolve with odds riding a curl and evens riding a retreat curl. Results in couples.
- Drop Off Set: On the first go, odds halt. On the second go, evens halt (done from a comb).
- Pick Up Set: On the first go, odds trot. On the second go, evens trot (called so that line is in comb alignment when all riders are trotting)
- Sunflower: From a circle, on the first go cut directly away from the middle of your circle (expand). On the second go, curl over in the same direction to face towards the middle of your circle (shrink). On the third go, cut back to your original circle size, going the same direction for each move.
- Collapse: From a circle, on the first go cut towards the middle of your circle (shrink). On the second go, curl over in the same direction to face directly away from the middle of your circle (expand). On the third go, cut back onto your original circle size, going the same direction for each move.
